진도개는 대담, 용맹하며 기민하면서도 신중하고 유혹에 쉽게 넘어가지 않는다. 충성, 용맹, 경계, 수렵 및 귀가본능, 결백, 대담, 비유혹성 등의 우수한 품성을 가져야한다. The Jindo Dog is courageous, brave, prompt, prudent and not easily tempted.  It must have loyalty, bravery, guard, hunting, homing instinct, integrity, courage, biyuhokseong (not easily fooled by temptation) and other superior characteristics.

진도개는 대담, 용맹하며 기민하면서도 신중하고 유혹에 쉽게 넘어가 지 않는다. The Jindo Dog is courageous, brave, prompt, prudent, and not easily tempted.  주인에 대한 충성심을 보이며 낯선사람을 경계한다. Extremely loyal to the master and on guard to strangers. 주변의 모든 사물에 대하여 예민하고 항상 경계하며 특히 수컷에 대하여 적대감을 나타낸다. Sensitive and watchful about things in the environment. Males express territorialism to other male dogs.

주인에 대하여는 극도의 충성심을 보이며 낯선 사람을 경계한다. Extremely loyal to the master and on guard to strangers.

수렵성 (狩獵) 사냥을 할 수 있는 품성 귀소성 (歸巢) 집으로 돌아가고 출발하였 던장소로 돌아오는 품성 번견성 (番犬) 도둑을 지키거나 망을 보 는 품성 충직성 (忠直) 충성스럽고 정직함을 나타:내는 품성 용맹성 (勇猛) 상대 동물에 대하여 용감 하고 사나움. 경계심 (警戒) 타인의 침입이나 사고가 생길 경우 주인에게 알리는 품성 결벽심 (潔癖) 다른 견종에 비하여 깨끗 함을 좋아하는 품성 비유혹성 (菲誘惑) 남이 꼬여도 주인의 말만들음 예민성 (叡敏) 재치나 감각, 행동등이 날 카롭고 민감한 품성 Hunting instinct - Characteristic for hunting   Homing instinct - Characteristic of returning home and returning to the starting place    Protectiveness - Characteristic of watching for thieves and guarding   Uprightness - Characteristic of displaying honesty and faithfulness   Bravery - Ferocious and brave against opposing animals.   Security - Characteristic of telling the owner in the case of intrusion or accident   Fastidiousness - Characteristic, by comparison, of liking cleanliness more than other dogs   Temptation - Only obeying the owner even when tempted   Sensitiveness - Characteristic of intelligence, actions, and senses being sensitive and sharp.

 

The traits of a good purebred Korean Jindo dog can be simplified into the three traditional attributes.

Jin (진) - This is a rather difficult trait to describe and takes experience with quality purebreds to gauge.  It can be roughly translated as the indominable spirit, determination, or wildness of the Jindo.   This is not to be confused with aggression.

Sun (선 ) - A good Korean Jindo should display absolute meekness, respect, loyalty, and obedience to its master.  Dogs exemplifying this trait can be trusted with children.

Mee ( 미 ) - The Korean Jindo dog should display a natural beauty, balanced and harmonious to the eye.
